Norazia Ali

Norazia Ali, a singer/recording artist in the late 1970s and early 1980s from Singapore is my cousin. Really! I remember her late father (whom I call "Pak Ali") was a radio newsreader in RTS and she appeared in some children's TV programmes in Singapore as a child. I think she is now living in Paris with her family.

I stumbled upon a YouTube video of her song "Cibidi Bang Bang". I think this album was released in 1979. She had two albums I think. I heard that she did some gigs with Sheila Majid doing backup vocals sometime in the mid-late 1980s.

I also stumbled upon another YouTube vid in which the singer's name is mentioned as "Norazia". The singer in this vid also looks so much like my cousin (whom we call by her family name of "Yaya" or sometimes "Yaya mini" to differentiate her from another cousin "Yaya" whose name is actually Sa'adiah). In this vid below, she sings a song titled "Wau Bule" - a song in which the chorus is a sampling of the Kelantanese folk song "Wau Bule".

It has been along time since I last saw her - must be more than 15 years.

Anyway, Yaya, if you are reading this, this is Fuad (the late Chik Yah's & Uncle Hussain's son from KL), the little brother of Lela, Aida & Alid. Trust you are doing well in Paris. Perhaps we will meet again someday.

Ciao!

Amir Fuad.
